Accreditation
Accreditation Committee updateThe College’s Accreditation Committee has awarded accreditation to the Université d’Ottawa multi-session program of professional education for Primary/Junior and Junior/Intermediate divisions in alternative mode. The program is offered in French. Accreditation was granted for five years with conditions. “Considering new teacher-education programs, the renewal of existing programs and new Additional Qualification courses, applications for accreditation are very high,” says committee chair Gord Hough. “The Accreditation Committee and College staff are working hard to complete these reviews. We look forward to continued collaboration with faculties and other providers to ensure that teacher education meets the needs of today’s teachers and students.” Tyndale University College reported on progress made in satisfying conditions that were part of the accreditation granted in 2007 to its consecutive program for the Primary/Junior and Junior/Intermediate divisions. The Accreditation Committee removed the remaining conditions, which required additional methodological content for kindergarten and Grades 9/10 and a review of the qualifications of faculty members who had not been hired at the time accreditation was granted. The committee also reviewed a report submitted by École des sciences de l’éducation at Université Laurentienne outlining the progress it has made in adding a Junior/Intermediate area of concentration to the part-time French-language consecutive program of professional education offered in alternative mode. Brock University’s faculty of education also submitted an update to the committee regarding the conditions attached to the 2007 accreditation of its four-year BEd program with concentration in Primary/Junior divisions and a focus on Aboriginal education. Conditions required up-to-date course outlines for the proposed program, an up-to-date handbook for teacher candidates, information on the qualifications and experience of faculty to be hired to teach the program, and verification of the availability of experienced teachers to supervise and assess the practicum of teacher candidates. The Accreditation Committee’s full decisions are available on the College web site. |
