Raheel Raza appointed to Public Interest Committee

Education Minister Kathleen Wynne has appointed author and interfaith and intercultural diversity consultant Raheel Raza to the College’s Public Interest Committee. The committee advises Council regarding its duty to serve and protect the public interest in carrying out the College’s objectives.

Raza, who is a public speaker, a documentary filmmaker, a freelance journalist and a member of the communications team for the 2010 G8 Interfaith Leaders’ Summit, graduated from Karachi University with majors in English and psychology. After a career with Scandinavian Airlines, she moved to the United Arab Emirates where she worked in the Office of the Ruler of Sharjah to develop tourism to the Emirates.

Raza has travelled throughout the Middle East, Europe, the Far East and North America, writing about and advocating for gender equality and women’s rights internationally. She has appeared in print and on radio and television regarding issues of media, diversity, gender and immigration and has presented to MPs and international diplomats at the House of Commons in Ottawa.

Raza replaces Zubeda Vahed, who resigned from the committee when she accepted a position in the Ministry of Education.
