College renews Lakehead accreditation

The College's Accreditation Committee recently granted general accreditation to four programs offered by Lakehead University's School of Education: a concurrent program, a consecutive program, a program in the Primary and Junior divisions for persons of native ancestry and a program for the teacher of a native language as a second language.

The accreditation period for these programs is five years.

The responsibility for accreditation of programs at faculties of education, which is vested in the College, gives teachers in Ontario a unique role in guiding their profession.

New School of Education at Laurentian

An aboriginal welcoming ceremony and reception at Laurentian University marked the start of construction in March on a new building that will house the School of Education's English-language professional education programs.

Some 60 representatives of various education stakeholders, including the College, were present for the event. Laurentian expects to spend about $20 million for the new building, which is scheduled to open in August 2007.
