Safely back to school
Safe Canada
 |
one-stop safety spot
|
Here's a great federal government site with national links to lots of safety
information. See School Safety, Teachers and Kids for the most relevant material.
Topics include: Chat/News Groups, Emergency Preparedness at School, Injury
Prevention and much more.
School Bus Site
 |
animated
|
Simple, colourful animation makes the Ontario Safety League web site a good
one for young children. Elementary-school student Sam walks kids through safely
boarding, riding and dismounting the bus.
Childnet International
 |
cyber safety for kids
|
UK-based Childnet International offers award-winning web sites like Blog Safety,
Chat Danger and Know It All, where you'll find numerous teacher resources,
strangely enough, under Know It All for Parents. This section includes Flash
videos and cartoons and real people introducing you to applicable resources.
Cyberbullying
two sites
 |
introductory information
|
cyberbullying.org gives a basic introduction to bash boards and other media.
Related Resources offers lesson plans plus a glossary of web/instant messaging
terms and links to other cyberbullying sites. Some important links on the site
don't work.
 |
Canadian-based web site |
stopcyberbullying.org offers age-specific information. Choose the blue apple
for teacher materials.
Also see www.stopbullyingnow.com, www.bebo.com/CyberBullying.jsp and www.internetsuperheroes.org.
Canada Safety Council
 |
keeping kids safe everywhere
|
Easy to navigate, this site includes playground safety, field trips, water
safety, scooters, skates and bicycles, sports and sun safety.
Food Allergy Initiative
 |
quick access to allergy info
|
The New-York-based
Food Allergy Initiative offers a good introduction to food allergies.
Skip directly to Food Allergy Information and Living with Food Allergies
at the top of each page. I like the by-allergy, image-based navigation beneath
the top navigation. You'll also find downloadable posters and a comprehensive
links page on the site.
