Interest Grows for Teacher Job Fair

The second annual Careers in Education Job Fair and Expo rolls out the red carpet for recruiters and teachers February 14-15 at the Holiday Inn, at 370 King Street West in Toronto.

The event will appeal to new graduates, experienced teachers and administrators looking to explore career options nationally and internationally.

Last year, the fair attracted 20 recruiter booths from six countries and more than 1,000 teachers. Educators talked to representatives from school boards and independent schools from Canada, the United States, England, Kuwait, Japan and Turkey. One Ontario board reportedly filled all its positions by mid-morning of the second day and an overseas school hired 10 people. The job fair also attracted out-of-province teachers looking to return to Ontario.

The number of booths this year is expected to double. Countries represented include: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States. There will be small schools, the largest boards in Canada, Catholic, public, private and Christian schools.

Teachers are admitted free but are asked to register so their resumes can be provided to recruiters.
