Qualifying Test deadline

All teachers currently holding Interim Certificates of Qualification (ICQ) issued after March 15, 2002 face a deadline with regard to the Ontario Teacher Qualifying Test (OTQT) if they wish to maintain their certification. Teachers who hold these ICQs must pass the test within a year of the date the ICQ was issued by the College.

ICQ holders can write the next scheduled test on April 3, 2004 but must register by February 24, 2004. The subsequent scheduled test will be held on July 10, 2004, with a registration deadline of June 1, 2004.

As of November 14, 2003, if the College has not received evidence that the OTQT has been successfully completed within one year of initial certification, the College must begin cancelling these interim certificates of qualification. Employers would be obliged to remove from the classroom a member whose certificate of qualification has been cancelled.

Scheduled test dates and locations, registration applications and registration deadlines are available from the Educational Testing Service at 1-866-789-4890 and the Ontario Principals' Council at 416-322-6600 or toll-free at 1-800-701-2362.

Candidates may also obtain registration applications from the College by calling 416-961-8800 or toll-free in Ontario at 1-888-534-2222.
