Going on leave?

Don't find yourself without a teaching certificate!

Every year some members of the College go on leave and, because their annual fee is normally deducted automatically from their pay and forwarded to the College by their employer, they forget to arrange for payment to the College.

College membership fees are due January 1st but members can pay from November of the preceding year and, without penalty, up to April 15th in the year for which it is due. Payments can be made by credit card via the College web site.

Members who miss the April 15th payment deadline are suspended and must pay an additional fee to be reinstated. While suspended for non-payment of fees, a member cannot teach in publicly funded schools in Ontario.

The first notice of the annual fee is published in the December issue of Professionally Speaking. The College sends a reminder invoice in mid-February to those who have not paid their fee by that time.

The College has also recently urged employers to include a reminder in any communications they have with employees going on leave.

You can pay online, where you may also want to register in the password-protected Members' Area of the College web site at www.oct.ca. It only takes a couple of minutes and you will gain secure access to a growing range of services to help you maintain and track information important to your membership in the College.

You can change personal information and view your Professional Learning Record. When you provide your
e-mail address the College will be able to confirm electronically each Additional Qualification or Professional Learning Program credit added to your record as soon as we receive it from the provider.

You will also be able to receive the College's electronic newsletter, Your College and You.
