French-Language Services

Co-ordinator appointed

Lise roy-Kolbusz joined the College as French-Language Services Co-ordinator on September 1. Roy-Kolbusz assumes overall responsibility for French-language services as well as for external relations, finance and budget development at the College.

"The perspectives and contributions of francophone members need to be an integral part of the things we do at the College," says College Registrar Doug Wilson. "Lise will play a vital role in ensuring that this need is met."

In her new role, Roy-Kolbusz will work with College Council and staff to enhance the range of services available to the francophone educational community.

"It is very important to engage in dialogue with the francophone educational community in order to set priorities with the Registrar and my other colleagues," she says.

Roy-Kolbusz is meeting with school boards, faculties of education, teachers and other stakeholders to consult on the College's study of French-language services and she hopes to have an action plan in place by the new year.

Roy-Kolbusz comes to the College with over 30 years experience in both French and English Catholic education, most recently serving as Superintendent of Education for Conseil des écoles catholique de langue française du Centre-Est.

Her education includes a Masters of Education degree from the University of Ottawa and a Program of Professional Education from Laurentian University in Sudbury.

Between 1985 and 2001 Roy-Kolbusz held the roles of vice-principal and principal, and was a subject advisor for modern languages at St. Matthews High School in the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic District School Board.

College Council approved the position of French-Language Services Co-ordinator to address the needs of francophone members last year at its October 2004 meeting.

The initiative was the result of a wide consultation with French-language stakeholders in the education community concerning services that the College offers and the challenges teachers face in a minority context.
