6-12 - White Cane Week
Honours British photographer James Biggs, who after being blinded in an accident decided to paint his cane white so it could easily be seen at night. Biggs’s innovation became an international symbol of blindness. The week also educates the public about blindness and visual impairment.
15 - National Flag of Canada Day
Marks the official 1921 designation of Canada’s red and white national colours and signifies the flag’s 1965 debut on Parliament Hill.
20 - Heritage Day
Celebrates the diverse architectural, natural and scenic heritage of Canada.
26-March 3 - Freedom to Read Week
Encourages Canadians to reaffirm their freedom of speech, expression and intellectual thought, guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
