PLP Courses and Providers Add Up
| The
Professional Learning Program (PLP) keeps growing with new providers and
courses approved regularly. By April 2003, 4,162 courses and 435 providers
from across Ontario and outside the province had been approved. Current
courses offer a total of 6,288 PLP credits and cover subjects as varied
as how to conduct parent-teacher-student conferences, introduction to the
internet and legislation related to special education.
"We are working hard to make this program work for teachers and interest is definitely growing with both providers and members," said College Registrar Doug Wilson. "Teachers are lifelong learners and the flexibility of the PLP means that they can meet its requirements through their regular learning activities. "Were constantly adding courses and providers that allow teachers to develop their own learning self-directed plan and set their own pace." The College has now created a fully searchable database of courses and providers accessible to all College members on its web site. Teachers can now browse through the full range of PLP offerings online. "For teachers in smaller centres, this means better access to information about professional development, something thats been a challenge for years." An added benefit of
many courses is the possibility for teachers of gaining PLP credits for
Independent Learning
Options (ILO) activities. For this to apply, ILOs must be supported
by an approved PLP-provider and
the course must be recorded on the teachers individual Professional
Learning Record. (See FAQs for more on ILOs and the
PLP.) |
