council Vacancy

Members invited to apply

College members who teach secondary school for an English-language Roman Catholic district school board anywhere in Ontario are invited to apply for a vacant Council position. The College's Nomination Committee issues this invitation after long-time Council member Harry Mulvale, who was acclaimed in the last College elections, resigned from Council and retired from teaching.

You can submit an expression of interest if:

  • you are a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and reside in Ontario
  • you are employed as a secondary school teacher by an English-language Catholic district school board as part of the board's regular teaching staff
  • you hold the qualifications required to teach a course or class in the last two years of the Intermediate division or in the Senior division
  • you are not currently employed as a principal, vice-principal or supervisory officer, or by a faculty of education as tenured or tenure-track staff, or by a private school
  • you are available to participate in both Council and Committee meetings for the balance of the term of the third Council, which expires in April 2006.

The employer of the member selected to fill this position will be reimbursed for salary expenses incurred for time that the member is on College business. Travel and accommodation costs associated with Council and committee business are reimbursed to the member.

If you meet the criteria and would like to serve on the Council of your professional governing body, please forward your resumé by e-mail to Myrtle Herzenberg, Council and Committees Officer, at mherzenberg@oct.ca.

The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, October 14, 2005 at 5:00 pm.

Following the deadline the Nomination Committee will review the applications, meet with short-listed candidates and make a recommendation to Council.

The newly appointed member will assume her or his Council responsibilities at the December 8-9, 2005 Council meeting.
