Accreditation panels

Call for volunteers

The Ontario College of Teachers invites members who have experience in teacher training and program evaluation to sit on 2004-05 accreditation panels for teacher education programs offered by faculties of education in Ontario.

We are looking for specialists in technological studies and members who work in other areas.

The Ontario College of Teachers' Accreditation Committee, in accordance with Regulation 347/02, Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs, will be reviewing four programs offered by the Faculty of Education of Lakehead University in Thunder Bay in November 2005.

The accreditation review will include these programs:

  • consecutive program of professional education - renewal
  • concurrent program of professional education - renewal
  • primary/junior program for persons of Native ancestry - renewal
  • teacher of a Native Language as Second Language program - renewal.

Members of the teaching profession and the public are invited to comment on the quality of the program scheduled for review.

Written comments or a request to make an oral submission must be submitted by October 15, 2005.

Please indicate your name and relationship, if any, to the program concerned when submitting written comments or a request to make an oral submission.

Your comments will be reviewed by the accreditation panel.

Standards Review

Stories from practice

You are invited to write stories (one or two paragraphs) of events, relationships or classroom situations that relate to a part of the standards of practice: Commitment to Students and Student Learning, Professional Knowledge, Teaching Practice, Leadership and Community or Ongoing Professional Growth.

Forward your story by October 31, 2005 to Déirdre Smith, Manager, Standards of Practice and Education via pad@oct.ca.

College to poll members about service

College representatives will conduct random interviews by telephone later this month to see how satisfied members are with service levels and to identify areas for growth.

Membership Services is spearheading the survey of 400 College members and applicants.
