COUNCIL MEETING
Summary – March 2008
At its March 27–28 meeting, College Council:
- approved recommendations in a report from an ad hoc Council committee that the College purchase a building to stabilize facilities costs after the current low-cost lease expires in 2012
- decided that the College will not host a colloquium on associate teachers in 2008
- accepted the College’s consolidated financial statements for 2007
- set the Reserve for Fee Stabilization at $2,804,000, the Reserve for Working Capital at $5,446,000 and maintained the Reserve for Stabilization of Facility Costs and the Unappropriated Members’ Equity at $6,000,000 and $500,000 respectively
- amended the Ontario College of Teachers Statement of Investment policies and guidelines to include guaranteed CMHC mortgages
- reappointed Pricewaterhouse Coopers as College auditors for the 2008 fiscal year
- appointed the College’s new Controller Carol Vinette-Hancharyk as a signing officer
- decided to take next steps outlined in a report on a professional designation – like MD, RN, PEng – for College members, with member consultations to begin this spring
- approved the report, Professional Advisory on Additional Qualifications: Extending Professional Knowledge
- created an ad hoc committee of five Council members, with a minimum of one appointed and three elected, to investigate and recommend a strategy to enhance the quality of the College’s relationships with its members and partners
- referred two reports – Seeking a Strategy to Enhance the Quality of the College’s Relationship with the Ontario Teacher Federations and Seeking a Strategy to Enhance the Quality of the College’s Relationship with Its Members – to the ad hoc committee struck to look at those matters
- referred a motion to the Finance Committee regarding committee budget allotment
- approved amendments to the professional misconduct regulation to separate and delineate the forms of abuse listed in the regulation as reasons for allegations of professional misconduct
- approved amendments to the Teachers’ Qualifications and Accreditation of Teacher Education Program regulations regarding technological education and degree definitions relating to masters degrees and degree duration
- approved a media protocol for Council meetings.
