COUNCIL MEETING

At its December 4–5 meeting, College Council:

  • received the report 10 Years of Self-Regulation: A review of the governance-leadership nexus at an in-camera session (The report was submitted by D. Wayne Taylor, an educator and consultant with expertise in quality management and governance, who was commissioned by Council to do a comparative review of the roles of Chair, Registrar and Deputy Registrar in the College and similar regulatory organizations.)
  • approved a request to the Minister of Education to amend Regulation 437/97, Professional Misconduct to list in four separate clauses the forms of abuse that are currently listed together in section 1 (7) of the regulation
  • approved an amendment to the Council member travel policy dated October 2, 2007 requiring that claims for expenses include the original detailed receipt showing the date, items consumed, applicable tax, gratuities and total
  • approved that the 2009 election for College Council be held on April 14, 2009
  • approved the proposed amendments to Regulation 184/97, Teachers’ Qualifications, providing members holding Certificates of Qualification (restricted) or Interim Certificates of Qualification (limited) with access to a broader range of Additional Qualification courses and programs
  • approved a request to the Minister of Education to amend Regulation 184/97, Teachers’ Qualifications to clarify that an acceptable postsecondary degree for the purposes of initial certification comprises at least 90 credits or equivalent
  • approved a request to the Minister of Education to amend Regulation 184/97, Teachers’ Qualifications to define a master’s degree, for the purpose of entry to the Principal’s Qualification Program and the Supervisory Officer’s Qualification Program, as consisting of graduate post-secondary course work completed in addition to the academic and professional requirements for initial teacher certification (Normally, such a degree will consist of a minimum of 30 credit/semester hours or equivalent.)
  • approved the formation of an ad hoc committee composed of two appointed members and three elected members to investigate and make recommendations to Council on a strategy to enhance the quality of College relationships with College members and College partners
  • requested that the Registrar investigate options and implement changes to Council and committee meetings that are more environmentally and socially conscious.
