Membership Made Easy

New online Members’ Area helps you connect with the College.

Here is a step-by-step guide that will help you sign up for the new online Members’ Area, including how to enter the College contest for a chance to win a trip for two provided by Explorica. Save time by having your College registration number and your Social Insurance Number handy.

1. Visit the home page of the Ontario College of Teachers web site at www.oct.ca/en.

2. Click the red button at the top of the home page (and every other page) that says “MEMBERS’ AREA LOGIN” to open the login page.

3. If you’ve registered for the Members’ Area on a previous visit, you can simply enter your College registration number and your password and begin using the area immediately. If it’s your first visit to the Members’ Area, you’ll have to go through a very brief registration process. To begin that process, click the Membership Made Easy link, as instructed on that first page.

4. On the Membership MadeEasy page, enter your College registration number and your Social Insurance Number in the form and click the SUBMIT button.

5. You’ll be taken to a page on which you’ll be asked to provide a password. Choose one with at least four characters and that others would be unlikely to guess.

6. You must also provide a secret question and answer. This question will be used to confirm your identity if you forget your password.forget your password.

7. You then have the option of providing an e-mail address. The address will be used only to reply to your questions, to provide lost passwords and to confirm processes you’ve completed online. You also have the option of receiving College -related e -mail. If that box is checked, you will receive occasional updates about what’s happening at the College and other professional news and information. (See College News the Way You Want It, page 37.)

8. Click the SUBMIT button and you’re done. You should see a page telling you the setup was successful. At this point, you are automatically entered for the College draw for a trip for two to London, England. (See Register and Win,page 35.)

Using the Site

There are buttons on the top of almost every page in the Members’ Area labeled MENU and LOG OUT. The menu lists all the functions available to you, under Current Services, and those that are in development, under Future Services.

The link on the menu called See Your Member Information will take you to a page that allows you to see the mailing address the College currently has on file for you—which must be kept up to date as a condition of membership. You can change your address and even post-date a change. You can also change your e-mail address, indicate whether or not you want to receive e-mail from the College and post your secret question and answer. Click the change link for any of those pieces of information to begin the short process of updating your information.

This page also highlights links to all your information available through the public register such as your name history, status history, qualifications, letter of approval, academic history and employment history.

When you want to leave the Members’ Area, click the LOG OUT button found at the top of every page to end your session. You should log out whenever you’re going to be away for a few moments from a shared computer.

Check back frequently to the Members’ Area. As the list of future services on the menu suggests, the College plans to add more services soon.
