Rosemary Gannon New Co-ordinator of Investigations and Hearings

Rosemary Gannon has been appointed the College’s new Co-ordinator, Investigations and Hearings effective June 3.

Gannon assumes this senior leadership role with an extensive background as a classroom teacher, administrator at the school and board levels, and as a Ministry of Education official. She joins the College from her position as district manager of field services for the Toronto and area district office of the ministry. Prior to this, she was the district manager for the Barrie district office as well as an education officer in that district.

Gannon began her career as a teacher with the then Metropolitan Separate School Board in the mid-1970s. She subsequently moved to Simcoe County and in 1986 was appointed to the position of principal in the Catholic school board. During her tenure with the board, Gannon served as Assistant to the Superintendent of Programme as well as acting in the position of Superintendent responsible for Special Education Programme and Services.

During her years as an educational leader, Gannon has gained a breadth of knowledge in policy development and implementation, school board operations and standards of practice for the profession. She demonstrates the organizational and project management skills necessary to oversee demanding, public leadership portfolios.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity to support the mandate of the College – to ensure the highest standards of professionalism for its members," she says. "As professionals we acknowledge and respect the importance of the public trust in the privileged nature of our relationships with students."

Gannon replaces Patrick O’Neill, who retired from the College in March.

"Patrick’s quiet leadership, and his sense of justice and fairness are his hallmarks," says College Registrar Joe Atkinson. "He established a department that quickly became recognized as exhibiting a high degree of professionalism, ensuring fairness for teachers and the public alike.

"Patrick is well-respected in his field and he’ll be missed at the College. We wish him all the best in his retirement."
