Creating the e-learning curriculum
- The Ministry of Education has developed e-learning courses through ongoing collaboration with the school boards. All e-learning courses are based on provincial curriculum policy documents.
- E-learning course writers - practising teachers from district school boards - are selected to create a design plan that outlines every unit and activity; expectations to be met; teaching and learning styles targeted; placement of interactive learning objects; and assessment and evaluation strategies.
- As soon as courses are drafted and finalized, they're released to schools boards. Individual e-learning teachers can customize courses to meet local needs.
- Some Ontario school boards offer e-learning courses and resources through their own systems. Courses delivered through e-learning must meet the same provincial requirements as courses delivered in traditional classrooms.
- Involvement in Ontario's e-learning strategy gives school boards access to high-quality e-learning credit courses; the provincial Learning Management System and the Ontario Educational Resource Bank (at no cost); face-to-face and online professional development for e-learning teachers; and a web site where teachers share e-learning experiences with their peers.
