Council Meeting

Summary – November 2006

At its November 9 meeting, College Council:

  • directed College staff to destroy the electronic ballots associated with the 2006 Council election
  • appointed Jacques Pavesi to fill the Council vacancy in the French-language Roman Catholic Board – Secondary position
  • elected Don Cattani as Council Chair and Annilee Jarvis as Vice-chair
  • appointed chairs and members to all statutory, regulatory, standing and special committees of Council
  • appointed Bob Boyle, Peter Lipman, Douglas McCarthy and George Merrett as presiding officers for the fourth Council of the Ontario College of Teachers
  • approved the establishment of a roster of panellists for the Investigation Committee
  • approved meeting dates for the coming year for Council and the Executive Committee.

Jacques Pavesi

(photo)Jacques Pavesi joined the fourth College Council on November 9 to fill the French-language Roman Catholic – Secondary. The position was vacant because no eligible candidate was nominated in the October 2006 election. Council ap-pointed Pavesi on the recom-mendation of the Nomination Committee, which selected him from eight possible candidates.

Pavesi works for the Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud, where he teaches French at école secondaire Sainte-Famille in Mississauga. He has taught high school French and English for two years in Canada and 28 years in France, where he was decorated by the French minister of national education for his contributions to education.

In addition to having been secretary-general of a teachers' association in France for 20 years, he served as France's cultural attaché for secondary and postsecondary education in Jamaica.

The new Council member has an undergraduate degree in education as well as a Masters in applied linguistics for teaching languages from the Université de Lille. Pavesi became a member of the College in 2004. His registration number is 478155.
