Council appointment

Allyn Janicki joins College Council

Council has appointed Allyn Janicki, OCT, to fill the Southcentral region full-time position vacancy created by the resignation of Brent Hamelin in January.

Because Hamelin was acclaimed in the 2009 Council election, the College advertised for applications from eligible College members. Janicki was chosen from 23 applicants.

Janicki has taught visual arts at the secondary school level since becoming a teacher in 1999. She has worked for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic DSB since 2002, having taught with the York Region Catholic DSB the previous three years.

She has served with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association as a local-level executive, a staff representative, an election teller and on the provincial communications committee.

"As educators, I believe we answer a call to serve," she says. "For the students in our classrooms, parents in our schools and colleagues in our community, the notion of service and servant leadership is heavily embedded in the educational forum."

As a Council member Janicki will serve on the Finance and Accreditation committees. She holds a BA in fine arts and a BEd from York University and is completing her MEd at Nipissing University. Her College registration number is 428162.
