February 23, 2011
At a special February 23 meeting, College Council:
- approved the Professional Advisory on the Use of Electronic Communication and Social Media.
March 31, 2011
At its March 31 meeting, College Council:
- appointed Allyn Janicki to fill the Council vacancy for the Southcentral region full-time position
- approved that subclauses 28(1) (a)(i) and 32(2) of the Teachers’ Qualifications Regulation be replaced with:
- one qualification in Grades 9 and 10 in a technological education subject listed in Schedule B, one qualification in Grades 11 and 12 in the same subject, and two other qualifications, each of which is in a different technological education subject listed in Schedule B, in Grades 9 and 10 or Grades 11 and 12 or a combination of the two
- to fulfill a requirement in subclause (1) (d) (ii), (iii) or (iv) relating to the completion of graduate postsecondary credits or their equivalent, the credits or their equivalent must have been completed by the candidate in addition to any credits that he or she was required to complete to be granted a General Certificate of Qualification and Registration
- recommended that new qualifications be added to Schedule C of the Teachers’ Qualifications Regulation on

- recommended changing the name of the Teaching Delaware Additional Qualification course to Teaching Lenape in Schedule C of the Teachers’ Qualifications Regulation
- recommended that the Schedule C Science and Technology, Grades 7 and 8 Additional Qualification course guideline not be divided into two separate qualifications
- recommended that a Teacher Leadership qualification be added to Schedule D of the Teachers’ Qualifications Regulation
- recommended that the College consult to further explore the relevance of a Schedule D three-part specialist qualification related to Science and Technology
- asked the Registrar to consider that the Standards of Practice and Education unit provide a presentation to Council on the ethical standards and the standards of practice
- directed the Registrar to provide a report to Council for information on the history and structure of the private and independent school systems in Ontario
- referred a motion to the Nomination and Election committees recommending that the Minister of Education appoint three French-speaking members to Council in place of the existing two and that it be considered at the December 2011 Council meeting
- referred a motion to the Finance, Nomination and Election committees recommending that the Minister of Education designate one of the existing 14 appointed positions a First Nations, Métis and Inuit appointee, and to amend the Ontario College of Teachers Act to add an additional elected position for a French-language public school system representative; the motion is to be considered at the December Council meeting
- requested amendments to the Ontario College of Teachers Act to:
- revoke the current section 2. (3) and replace it with:
- 2. (3) The Not-for-Profit Corporations Act and Corporations Information Act do not apply to the College, except as specifically made applicable by this Act or the regulations
- strike out the Corporations Act in Section 40 (1) and replace it with the Not-for-Profit Corporations Act
- approved amending the College bylaws to remove section 20, delegating the authority of Council to the Executive Committee between meetings of Council
- amended section 3.06 (b) of the College bylaws to delete the words “which have received prior review by the Executive Committee” to read “(b) recommendations in reports by committees.”
