At its October 7–8 meeting, College Council:

approved requesting an amendment to the Ontario College of Teachers Act so that every person employed, retained or appointed to administer the Act and every member of the Council or a Council committee shall keep all information that comes to her or his knowledge in the course of her or his duties confidential and shall not communicate any such information to any other person except in connection with the administration of the Act, including anything relating to the registration of members, complaints about members, allegations of members’ incapacity, incompetence or acts of professional misconduct or the governing of the profession

approved that the next Council election be held on April 10, 2012

amended College bylaws, establishing the non-refundable application fee for the Supervisory Officer’s Qualification Program/Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (SOQP/PLAR) at $220 and the per module/leadership practicum assessment fee at $640; the College will refund the $640 if it determines, after an initial evaluation of the academic and experience requirements, that the applicant is not eligible for the prior learning assessment and recognition process

amended the College’s privacy policy with respect to recording telephone calls so that:

the definition of “personal information” includes the words “however recorded, whether in printed form, on film, by electronic means or otherwise”

“If personal information is collected by telephone, the call will be monitored and recorded to ensure that the College is meeting its statutory responsibilities; to update and maintain applicants’ and members’ contact information; to maintain accurate and fair record of matters regarding additional review or investigation; to assist with employee training; and to ensure quality control”

amended the policy under Principle 2 to include the following: “to maintain and update the College’s register as required under legislation, as well as information pertaining to members that is required for the purposes of administering the legislation”

approved revisions to the professional development policy for Council members to enable the Registrar to request release time for elected members to attend professional development opportunities and to cap the amount of funds available for professional development in any three-year term at $2,500

recommended that Council members have an opportunity to attend a focus group or consultation in line with the protocol for Council Members’ Attendance at Focus Groups within their three-year terms.
