Preparing teachers for tomorrow
A practical resource about the practicum
If you want to be up to date on what’s happening with the practicum in Ontario, look no further than the newly released Contemporary Practices in Ontario Programs of Professional Education: Practice Teaching Resource 2010.
This valuable resource provides a reader-friendly overview of innovative practices regarding the practicum in Ontario’s faculties and schools of education, district school boards and schools. You’ll find information about school, board and community partnerships, associate teachers, preparing teacher candidates for the practicum, and placement.
The College’s 2006 report Preparing Teachers for Tomorrow recommended we create resources to share promising practices and knowledge about various aspects of teacher education. The practicum is integral to preparing new teachers for the classroom.
The College developed this resource with the Ontario Teachers’ Federation and the Ontario Association of Deans of Education. The resource writing team represents more than 25 organizations in the education community.
“Ontario’s teacher education programs are among the best in the world. It’s a pleasure to share the innovative programs and practices in this resource so that we can all benefit from the work of our faculties, boards and schools across Ontario,” says Michelle Longlade, OCT, Director of Standards of Practice and Accreditation. “We’d like to thank all our contributors for their insights and expertise, which are reflected in these pages. The resource is easy to read and full of useful information.”
Contemporary Practices in Ontario Programs of Professional Education: Practice Teaching Resource 2010 will be available this fall on the College web site at www.oct.ca . Printed copies can be ordered through info@oct.ca.
