New College Council Clicks Into Place

Marilyn Laframboise and Nancy Hutcheson were voted Chair and Vice-Chair respectively at the first meeting of the third College council on May 9th, 2003.
At midnight on April 14, 2003, the College successfully concluded its first electronic election of Council.

The election, which began March 3rd, was combined with a promotion encouraging members to register in the Members’ Area of the College’s web site. Members from across the province had access to voting 24 hours a day from anywhere they could go online, while more than 40,000 new online accounts for members were created.

Conducting the election onlinepermits the College to reduce costs while improving access to candidate information. Ballot-printing, mailing and tabulation costs are eliminated and the College can respond more effectively to recent changes in a member’s category or region. Online election pages provided detailed information on member categories and regions and presented a biography and picture of each candidate.

College Registrar Doug Wilson said the College will examine why many members opened confidential accounts but did not cast ballots.

Independent auditor Deloitte & Touche verified the final count.
