March
4-20 – International Francophone Week – Celebrates the language and cultural diversity of francophones worldwide and runs for 17 days.
6 – International Children’s Day of Broadcasting – Broadcasters around the world air quality programming for, by and about children. This year’s theme is Girls Are … Boys Are …
8 – International Women’s Day – A time to reflect on the progress that has been made, assess the challenges that remain and consider future steps to enhance the status of women. This year’s celebration marks the 100th anniversary of this important day.
21 – International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination – Fifty years ago, police opened fire at a non-violent demonstration against apartheid in Sharpeville, South Africa, and killed 69 people. The day calls attention to racism and the need to promote racial harmony.
22 – World Water Day – Addresses water’s crucial role in climate-change policies. This year’s theme is Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge.
27 – World Theatre Day – Celebrates the power of the performing arts.
April
Poetry Month – Schools, publishers, literary organizations, libraries and poets celebrate the significance of poetry in Canadian culture.

10-16 – National Volunteer Week
15 – Day of Silence – Students take a vow of silence in a national effort to call attention to anti-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) name calling, bullying and harassment in schools.
22 – Earth Day – A day to recognize environmental gains, create new visions and unite around new actions.

Speech and Hearing Awareness Month – Encourages early prevention and detection of communication disorders and addresses the need for increased sensitivity to individuals with speech and hearing challenges.
2 – Music Monday – Supports a coalition for music education.
2-6 – Education Week – Celebrates teaching excellence, student achievement and exceptional community support in Ontario’s public schools.
3 – World Press Freedom Day – Draws attention to journalists who brave death or imprisonment to bring people their daily news.
4 – Project ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously) – Children exercise to promote healthier lifestyles across the globe.
7 – International Astronomy Day – Astronomy week is from May 2 to 8.
18 – International Museum Day – Recognizes museums for safeguarding and promoting Canada’s diverse heritage.
