Francophone Literary Day

Annual writing marathon

Francophone students enjoyed an exhausting but extraordinary December day of writing during the second annual Marathon d’écriture at the Toronto Reference Library.

Throughout the day, teachers and their 23 literature-loving students from Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud and Conseil scolaire Viamonde attended writer-led workshops on the finer points of five literary forms: poetry, Eric Charlebois; fiction, Claude Forand; song, Dominique Denis; the novel, Viateur Lefrançois; and the short story, Lise Gaboury-Diallo.

Eillen Sellam, Cultural Activities Organizer, Écoles de Toronto, Conseil scolaire Viamonde, accompanied students from her board.

“How stimulating to hear five writers from various worlds speak about their passion and suggest different writing approaches,” Sellam said. “Students had the chance to explore all kinds of writing styles while testing their endurance, concentration and creativity. I hope this adventure will be available next year. Students are not the only ones who benefited.”

The Salon du livre de Toronto and Alliance Française de Toronto organized the event.
