ECE Letters of Permission

A new regulation allows the Minister of Education to grant a Letter of Permission (LOP) to school boards to employ individuals as early childhood educators (ECEs) who are not registered as ECEs in Ontario.

Requirements under the new early childhood educator LOP regulation largely parallel the regulation governing teacher Letters of Permission, with some additional requirements. For example, boards must advertise designated ECE positions in additional locations starting in the 2011–12 school year.
A Letter of Permission is effective for only a specified time period, which may not exceed one year, and individuals may be assigned under a Letter of Permission for no more than four years.

School boards should contact their regional Ministry representative to apply for an ECE Letter of Permission.
