SEPTEMBER

8 - International Literacy Day

Advocates literacy for children and adults around the world.

17-25 - AIDS Walk for Life Week

Canada's single most important AIDS/HIV fundraising and awareness event.

21 - International Day of Peace

Highlights global efforts to end conflict and promote peace. This day was established by a UN resolution in 1981.

25 - Franco-Ontarian Day

Observes the contributions of the francophone community of Ontario to the social, economic and political life of the province.

28 - Terry Fox National School Run Day

Marks the 31st anniversary of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope.

28 - British Home Child Day

Between 1869 and the late 1940s, over 100,000 orphaned and abandoned children arrived in Canada from Great Britain. Around one in 10 Ontarians can trace their ancestry to a British home child. To recognize and honour the contributions of these children, Ontario has passed the British Home Child Day Act, designating September 28 as British Home Child Day.

Canadian Library Month

Celebrates libraries and information services. This year's theme is Your Library: A Place Unbound.

Child Abuse Prevention Month

This month is organized by the Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies.
